One of the more well-regarded campaigns in advertising comes from Extra Gum and its agency Energy BBDO. What started as a viral smash has continued to evolve, culminating in another compelling series of work last April. Two of the creatives behind this and other brand campaigns, Josh Gross and Pedro Pérez, were elevated to the roles of co-CCO’s at the Chicago agency.
The pair have been at the agency since 2014, most recently serving as ecds. In addition to their work with Extra Gum, Gross and Pérez put their creative stamps on work for Pearle Vision, Bayer Aspirin and others. Additionally, Gross and Pérez are credited with helping the agency win new business including the American Egg Board, Avocados from Mexico, MillerCoors’ Cape Line and Redd’s Apple Ale and, more recently, Champion Sportswear.
The new appointment comes on the heels of the departure of CCO Andrés Ordóñez, who left to succeed Liz Taylor as creative lead at FCB Chicago.
“For the past five years, Josh and Pedro have been the driving force of brand-building, business-driving work for many of our clients including Mars Wrigley, Pearle Vision, Avocados from Mexico, the American Egg Board and more,” said Tonise Paul, Energy BBDO CEO. “Their passion for the work, creative craftsmanship, focus on business outcomes and embodiment of the agency’s core values make them perfect to assume their new roles. We’ve had a mutually rewarding past several years with Andrés and wish him only the best.”
Gross and Pérez have a substantial awards track record, scooping up honors from the likes of Cannes Lions, One Show, D&AD and others. Before Energy BBDO, Gross was an acd at CPB and Pérez was a creative director at Badillo Saatchi & Saatchi in Puerto Rico. The duo will work closely with ecds Susan Tracy and Iona Filip.
“Josh and Pedro are gifted creative thinkers who will help continue to lead the way forward for our clients,” said David Lubars, chairman of BBDO North America and CCO of BBDO Worldwide. “They live in the world of big, effervescent, integrated ideas, as all BBDO leaders do.”
