Publicis Hires R/GA’s Nick Law as Its New Global Chief Creative Officer

Publicis Groupe has announced that Nick Law, previously vice chairman and global CCO of digital shop R/GA, has been named global CCO of Publicis Groupe and president of Publicis Communications.

He will start in May and report directly to Arthur Sadoun, chairman and CEO of the holding company.

“Nick is a true unicorn in our industry,” Sadoun said in a statement. “Throughout his career, he has delivered world-class work that builds on what we believe all our clients need: the alchemy of creativity and tech. This modernity in ideas, combined with his obvious leadership skills, make Nick the perfect person to play such a pivotal role in our Groupe. His partnership will be a game-changer in our journey to lead the change in our industry.”

Law had been with R/GA since 2001 as CCO, helping to launch the digital agency’s Portland office.

“I am incredibly grateful for all Nick has done for R/GA, our clients and our staff over the past 17 years,” R/GA CEO Bob Greenberg told Adweek. “Among many things, he leaves a legacy of developing some of the best talent in the industry.”

Greenberg added: “It is that talent across the entire R/GA network that will continue to push boundaries and produce award-winning work designed to drive our client’s businesses forward. All of us at R/GA wish Nick the greatest success in his new role and thank him for 17 years of creative innovation and inspiration.”

Greenberg had groomed Law over many years to be his heir apparent. The line of succession for R/GA leadership is no longer clear.

At Publicis, Law will be responsible for leveraging data and tech to deliver creative solutions for clients, while playing a key role in shaping the holding company’s “transformation to a platform that connects, empowers and unleashes the creative potential of each and every Publicis employee,” according to this morning’s announcement.

The hire plays into the Publicis ongoing digital transformation, which includes the recent launch of Spine, a dedicated unit to the agency network’s data assets and tech. Spine houses new assets from Publicis including PeopleCloud, a cloud-based platform that identifies sources of client growth at an individual level.

As president of communications, Law will be tasked with developing a unified creative strategy across Publicis shops including Leo Burnett, Saatchi & Saatchi, BBH, Publicis Worldwide, Fallon and Marcel.
