R/GA has chosen account specialist Nick Allen to lead its longstanding relationship with telecom giant Verizon as svp, group managing director in New York.

He arrives from Anomaly, where he spent two years as global and North American group business head, managing both the New York Life account and the entirety of the Diageo portfolio including Johnnie Walker, Crown Royal and Captain Morgan.

Allen succeeds Anthony Romano, who left to become CEO of BBH New York earlier this summer. In the new role, he will act as senior partner working to manage and expand Verizon and other client relationships and collaborate with R/GA’s strategists, creatives and producers. He reports to U.S. president Sean Lyons.

“Nick’s wealth and breadth of experience driving successful campaigns and programs for clients across the globe is proof he understands the current and emerging landscape for brands and marketers,” said Lyons. “We are excited for Nick to lead our Verizon team as they continue to partner with our clients on innovative, rule-breaking work.”

Prior to joining Anomaly, the University of Leeds graduate was client partner, managing the global Jaguar Land Rover account at Brooklyn Brothers, a London agency. He also held account executive roles at IPG (Nokia) and J. Walter Thompson (Vodafone).

“I genuinely believe that there’s never been a more exciting time to be in our industry,” said R/GA’s newest executive. “The convergence of accelerating technologies, the emergence of the fourth industrial revolution, the atomization of the consumer experience, and the fact that creativity and purposeful brands are more important than ever, has created a wonderfully rich and fertile environment where the possibilities are endless.”

He added, “When it comes to architecting change for clients during a period of unparalleled disruption, R/GA is the most forward thinking company out there.”

Allen, who started his career as a waiter in Walt Disney World’s Epcot Center, is also a passionate soccer fan who currently serves as chairman of three fantasy leagues.

R/GA has worked with Verizon off and on for many years, winning a digital review in 2015 and gradually expanding its responsibilities since then. In early 2016, the company consolidated its digital brand work with the IPG network.
