$70 Mil. Staples Account in Play

CHICAGO Staples and Martin/Williams are parting ways on the chain’s $70 million broadcast creative account, which is now in review, the client has confirmed.

Select Resources International in Santa Monica, Calif., has been hired to lead the search, and the client is looking to make a decision in the next 60 days, a Staples representative said.

Minneapolis-based Omnicom shop M/W won the business in July 2002 after a review that included Interpublic Group’s Carmichael Lynch in Minneapolis and The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., and independent Wieden + Kennedy in New York. Martin/Williams recent work was tagged, “That was easy.”

“Staples is enjoying great business success, recently becoming the world’s largest office products retailer,” according to a statement issued by the Framingham, Mass.-based retailer. “As we look to build on our ‘easy brand’ positioning, we believe the time is right to bring in new creative thinking to help further propel our industry leadership.”
