The Ad Council Names GE CMO Linda Boff As Its New Board Chair

The Ad Council is kicking off the holiday week with a big announcement: Linda Boff, the CMO of GE, will be its board of directors’ new chair.

“The Ad Council is a beacon for driving action around the most important causes today,” Boff said in a statement. “From bullying to gun safety to diversity and inclusion to adoption from foster care, the Ad Council creatively and memorably spotlights and drives action around critical topics. I could not be prouder or more excited to align with Lisa Sherman [president and CEO of the Ad Council] and her world-class team for the next year.”

Boff has been a member of the council’s board of directors since 2012, and a member of the executive committee since 2014. Most recently, she’s served as vice chair of the board and will serve in this new position for a year. The change in chair of the board has become something of a tradition for the Ad Council, with the person in the top spot rotating every year. Boff will succeed the Ad Council’s current chair, David Sable, global CEO of advertising agency Y&R.

In the position, Boff will work with the Ad Council’s leadership to “manage and advise on business affairs and policy initiatives,” according to a release. She’ll also chair its 2018 Annual Public Service Award Dinner, set to take place in December 2018 in New York City.

A marketing industry veteran, Boff was previously the CMO of NBC’s iVillage before moving to GE. She’s also worked at the American Museum of Natural History and Citigroup, as well as a number of agencies. She’s been with GE since 2003, and was appointed CMO in 2015.

Her leadership will be an invaluable asset to our board and many of the most critical social issues facing our country.”

The Ad Council, established in 1942, is behind some of the best-known public service advertisements and campaigns of the past century, including Smokey Bear and Love Has No Labels.
