Energizer’s Latino Biz Goes to Grupo Gallegos

LOS ANGELES Grupo Gallegos has been tapped to handle Hispanic advertising for Energizer, the agency confirmed.

The Long Beach, Calif., shop won the business following a review. Contenders also included Zubi Advertising in Coral Gables, Fla., and Casanova Pendrill in Irvine, Calif., which handled the business in the mid-1990s, according to sources.

Billings could not be determined. Energizer has not used a Hispanic agency in recent years. The last time the company had Latino media expenditures was in 1998, when it spent $2 million, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

The St. Louis-based client could not immediately be reached.

TBWA\Chiat\Day handles general-market advertising for Energizer. The client spent more than $80 million on general-market ads in 2002 and $22 million through June 2003, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
