Havas has taken a majority stake in SEO firm Acmic Interactive, renaming the company Euro RSCG 4D Matrix.
Acmic services domestic and global clients, offering a range of digital services, including search engine marketing, search engine optimization, social media marketing, display advertising, mobile marketing, analytics and Web design.
It is headquartered in Bangalore, India, and is staffed with 60 employees.
David Jones, global CEO of Havas Worldwide, said the move was part of integrating digital into the core of the holding company’s agencies. “[SEO] is the sweet spot of the fastest-growing discipline, in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets,” he said. He expects the acquisition to offer new expanded digital, search and social media capabilities to Havas’ clients globally.
This marks the second i-shop acquisition by a major player this week, following JWT’s absorption of Digitaria. Also, Aegis Media snapped up Australia’s Mitchell Communication late last month.
Acmic was established by Ravi Shankar, who has more than a decade of experience in search marketing, and Sandeep Madhavan, an ex-Yahoo Australia executive. Though based in India, the company has an especially strong presence in the U.K. Euro RSCG 4D Matrix now has offices in Bangalore, Mumbai and London.
Shankar serves as CEO of Euro RSCG 4D Matrix, reporting to Suman Srivastava, CEO of Euro RSCG India.
Matthew Fanshawe, managing director, Euro RSCG Asia Pacific, added that plans were already in the works to expand Matrix operations beyond India and the U.K., specifically in the U.S. in the near future. “Nearly half of clients’ digital marketing budgets are spent on search, and having this caliber of expertise in-house will be a real asset for us to take digital integration to the next level,” he said.
