A Longs Shops for an Agency
DETROIT–Longs Drug Stores is looking for agencies with branding and retail experience in a review for its $18 million account, the client confirmed. Eight-year incumbent Doner is participating via its Newport Beach, Calif., office. Other participants for the Walnut Creek, Calif.-based chain’s business include Grey Advertising, Los Angeles, and BBDO and Hoffman/Lewis, both San Francisco, sources said. Agency officials either could not be reached or declined comment. A decision is due in March. It is the first time the client is reviewing during Doner’s tenure as its ad agency.
A Baskin-Robbins Taps VitroRobertson
LOS ANGELES–Allied Domecq has tapped roster shop VitroRobertson to handle its estimated $15-18 million Baskin-Robbins account. The San Diego agency also services the company’s Togo’s restaurant chain. There was no review. Baskin-Robbins, Glendale, Calif., was previously handled by Deutsch/LA, Marina del Rey, Calif. The agency and client mutually split in November after two years together.

Butler, Shine & Stern, Sausalito, Calif., will square off against CMG Communications, New York, for the estimated $4-6 million Yack.com account. … Techies.com awarded its account to Digital Pulp in New York. Other contenders for the Bloomington, Minn.-based client’s account were Collaborate, San Francisco; Leo Burnett Technology Group, Chicago; and DDB Worldwide and Hampel Stefanides, both New York.
A Onward & Upward
Peter Angelos has rejoined Foote, Cone & Belding after two years with TBWA/Chiat/Day. Angelos, 45, returns as senior vice president, client creative director, at FCB’s San Francisco office. He had served as managing director of TBWA/C/D’s San Francisco office before leaving late last year when Chuck McBride was brought in above him from Wieden & Kennedy. Angelos began his career at FCB in 1982, becoming executive creative director before leaving the San Francisco office in 1987. … Steve Johnston has joined McCann-Erickson as senior writer and group head. Johnston, formerly a group creative director at Fallon McElligott, Minneapolis, will be based in McCann’s Seattle office. During his tenure at Fallon, he worked on Miller Lite, United Airlines and Purina. At McCann, he will work on Washington Mutual, the Washington Apple Commission and Altrec.com, among other accounts.
A FCB’s Elliott Dies of Cancer at 51
NEW YORK–Tim Elliott, managing director of FCB Worldwide’s New York office since last January, has died after a three-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 51. Elliott joined FCB in 1997 as worldwide account director on Citibank. He became managing director of FCB’s San Francisco office in 1998, and in early 1999 shifted to New York in the same capacity. Elliott is survived by his wife, Daryl. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Visiting Nurse Service of New York.
