FTD Selects W.B. Doner
DETROIT-Florists’ Transworld Delivery in Downers Grove, Ill., has selected W.B. Doner & Co., Southfield, Mich., as its agency of record, with its duties including creative services and media planning and buying. The agency’s first campaign is expected to appear by the end of summer, sources said. FTD spent about $16 million on advertising in 1996, according to Competitive Media Reporting. Grey Advertising, New York, resigned the account earlier this month. Other shops considered for the business included DiNoto Lee in New York; Foote Cone & Belding in Chicago; Cleveland agency Meldrum & Fewsmith Advertising; D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, Troy, Mich.; and J. Walter Thompson in Detroit.

Burnett Takes Public Relations Account
CHICAGO-Leo Burnett has been selected to handle public relations for Delta Dental Plans Association, Oak Brook, Ill., its first public relations-only client. Burnett’s Giant Step interactive unit will help enhance Delta’s Internet site. Separately, Jack Klues, executive vice
president and director of worldwide media services has been elected to Burnett’s board of directors.

SHS Purchases Aviation Shop
CHICAGO-Sullivan Higdon & Sink in Wichita, Kan., has acquired The Avion Group in Lenaxa, Kan., which will take the SHS name July 1. Both agencies handle several aviation industry clients.

Heller Names 2 Agency Finalists
CHICAGO-Heller Financial here has narrowed its search for a new agency to two shops, Doremus & Co., and Arian, Lowe & Travis, both in Chicago, according to Stephen Ban, senior vice president and director of marketing at Heller. Ad spending was estimated at $1-3 million. The company, which specializes in financing middle market leveraged buyouts, had been with David Cravit & Associates in Chicago, which closed earlier this month.

PMM Withdraws from Country Kitchen Contest
CHICAGO-Peterson Milla Hooks in Minneapolis said it pulled out of the competition for the Country Kitchen restaurant chain’s business after determining it would not be a good fit with the company. Remaining contenders are incumbent TVRP Creative and MMG Worldwide, both in Kansas City; and Bozell and Kerker & Associates, both in Minneapolis. Spending is estimated at $1 million; a decision is expected in July.

Seeley Is Appointed True North CFO
CHICAGO-True North Communications here has named Donald Seeley executive vice president and chief financial officer. Previously president and chief executive officer of The Alexander Consulting Group in New York, Seeley succeeds Terry Ashwill, who departed TN in March.
