Jimmy John’s today announced that Darin Dugan will be the sandwich chain’s new chief marketing officer.
Dugan brings a wide range of experience in food marketing to the brand. Most recently, he served as vice president of marketing for Sonic Drive-In. Prior to that, Dugan held a senior position at Applebee’s and spent more than 15 years with Kraft Foods, where he served in several marketing, product development and branding positions, leading brands like Oscar Mayer and Lunchables.
“Darin has proven he can do it all over the course of his remarkable career,” said Jimmy John’s president James North in a statement. “His leadership, creativity, innovation and singular focus on guest experience will help accelerate the growth of Jimmy John’s.”
As CMO, Dugan will oversee brand marketing and planning, menu and new product development, advertising and digital, including media and loyalty programs. He’ll report directly to North.
“I’ve been an admirer of Jimmy John’s for a long time, especially its commitment to quality, customer service and digital innovation,” Dugan said in a statement. “I look forward to joining this award-winning team and helping the brand reach its tremendous growth potential.”
Dugan replaces John Shea, Jimmy John’s former CMO, who is leaving the company pending a transition period while Dugan relocates from Oklahoma City, per a Jimmy John’s spokesperson.
Last summer, Jimmy John’s worked with its agency of record WorkInProgress to launch a sweepstakes to promote its delivery service. The campaign culminated in a giveaway of $250,000 toward a new home so that a lucky winner could move into the restaurant’s delivery zone. (The brand only delivers to locations within a 5-minute radius of one of its stores.)
Prior to last May, when Jimmy John’s announced WorkInProgress as its new AOR, the brand was working with FCB Chicago.
