CHICAGO – Midas International Corp., which split off its local ad business from national agency Wells Rich Greene/BDDP here, has narrowed the sear

In the Chicago-area market, insiders say CME-KHBB/Chicago and Jack Levy Associates are gunning for what is believed to be a $5 million piece of Midas business. The two were whittled from a list of roughly 15 agencies and will shoot it out during the next few weeks.
Meanwhile, the Michigan and Ohio Midas dealers narrowed a review for their $3-5 million business between The Berline Group, Bingham Farms, Mich., and Stone & Simons Advertising, Southfield, Mich.
A decision for the Michigan and Ohio business is also expected in a few weeks.
Midas announced last month it was taking the combined local ad budget of roughly $35 million and splitting it among various local agencies throughout the country. Wells Rich retains national creative and national buying worth about $25 million.
The new agencies, according to the company, will be responsible primarily for local media planning and buying as well as for development of promotional programs.
Midas officials hopes to have new agencies in place by Jan. 1.
