Modernista! Is Selected by Rossignol

Modernista! has been selected by the U.S. division of French ski products company Rossignol for a print-based project that could lead to a longer lasting relationship, sources said.

Executives at Boston’s Modernista! declined to comment and client officials did not return calls.

Modernista! upended crosstown rivals Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos and Holland Mark, as well as Burlington, Vt.-based boutique Lisaius Marketing, in a review, sources said. The $500,000-$1 million project had generated considerable attention from large Northeast agencies because of the high-profile Rossignol name, the chance for a creative showcase and the recent lack of big-budget new business to pursue, agency sources said. Among the contenders, only Hill, Holliday confirmed having talks with Rossignol. The client had said it was considering shops but declined to name them.

Rossignol spent $1.5 million on ads in 2000, per Competitive Media Reporting, and has handled chores in-house and through various agencies on a project basis.

Modernista! clients also include the Gap, MTV and General Motors’ Hummer.
