Jess Zafarris

Jess Zafarris is an audience engagement editor at Adweek. She is an award-winning content and marketing strategist and a prolific online and print journalist. She is also the author of the book Once Upon a Word: An Etymology Dictionary for Kids (Rockridge Press, Feb. 2020) and the creator of Useless Etymology, a humor blog documenting curious word origins. Previously, she served as the executive director of marketing and communications for Gotham Ghostwriters and digital content director and director of content strategy for Writer’s Digest and Script magazine. Her nine years of prior experience in digital and print content direction and marketing include such roles as editor-in-chief of HOW magazine and online content director of HOW and PRINT magazines, as well as roles at the Denver Business Journal, KMGH-TV in Denver and the Memphis Commercial Appeal.
