Facebook just eliminated the need to hang up and launch a new audio or video chat on Messenger when users want to add more people to the conversation.
Product manager Sarah Morris announced in a Newsroom post that group chats on Messenger now feature an “add person” icon, allowing people on the messaging application to add other contacts to their voice or video chats.
The new feature launched Wednesday on Messenger for iOS and Android. Here’s how it works:
- Start a call in Messenger.
- Once in a one-on-one call, tap the screen. You’ll see a new icon now, which represents adding another person. Tap on that icon.
- While still connected to the call, a menu will overlay the screen, allowing you to add others to the call.
- After inviting others, you can seamlessly return to your conversation.
Morris added in her post, “Let’s say you’re chatting with your mom on a video call in Messenger to wish her happy birthday, and you want to add your sister and brother in to join the fun—we just made it super easy … With the ability to add more people seamlessly to your calls, you can continue your conversation in the moment, just like if you were together in real life.”
