Every prematurely published story about an as-yet-unrealized future event always comes back to the classic of the genre. The ghost of Dewey Defeats Truman was resurrected once more after the Washington Post published a story announcing that Vice President Joe Biden was launching a campaign for the presidential nomination, an event that has not and may never occur.


One digital age plus, though, screen shots don’t have the same effect as stacks of printed, tangible front pages splashed with your error. But then there’s social media, which was, in part, sympathetic.

Others weren’t convinced on the innocent nature of the glitch.

Many characterized the error with one word.
