Amazon held a press conference today in Madrid where it formally launched its 7th local Amazon website. The site, which I was told would be in operation tomorrow, is now up and running. Spanish residents can buy gadgets, books, movies, and electronics and have them delivered via MWR, the same delivery service that Amazon had already been using in Spain.
The rumors we heard last week are true; Amazon is just selling physical goods through Amazon.es. Anyone who wants to buy a Kindle eBook is directed to Amazon.com.
The new site is also offering a guaranteed delivery service. Subscribe for 15 euros a year and all packages will be delivered in 2 to 3 days, or you can guarantee a delivery within 24 hours for a fee of 3 euros.
Curiously enough, Amazon.es already has a bestseller’s list, the Spanish translation of George RR Martin’s A Game of Thrones: songs of Fire & Ice is currently number 2.
