Angry Birds Stella POP

Rovio has announced the launch of Angry Birds Stella POP on mobile devices. The game is the second title in the Angry Birds Stella series, and also sees Rovio branching out into a new genre: bubble-shooting. Angry Birds Stella POP follows Stella and her friends, Willow, Poppy, Dahlia and Luca, through dozens of levels as they work to burst the Pigs’ bubbles and ultimately confront Stella’s old rival, the “Bad Princess” Gale.

Angry Birds Stella PopIn each level of Angry Birds Stella POP, players are challenged to fling bubbles at formations at the top of the screen using a slingshot at the bottom of the board, in order to create groups of three-or-more like-colored bubbles. Each level has a different goal, from clearing a large number of bubbles from the top line of the board, to removing all of the bubbles underneath pigs so they fall to the bottom of the screen, and so on. Most levels are move-limited, but some are timed, challenging users to clear every bubble on the board before running out of time (but using an unlimited supply of bubbles).

Each bird has a special ability to help players out, and these abilities are triggered by making a combo of six matches in a row. For intsance, Stella offers a bomb bubble, capable of clearing a large group of surrounding bubbles when fired, while Willow creates a splash bubble, which turns all surrounding bubbles to a single color, as examples.

Gamers also have separate power-ups available for purchase. These include a rainbow bubble, which can be used as a replacement for any color of bubble when players are in a jam.

Users earn up to three stars on each stage, depending on their final score. If they fail to complete a stage before running out of moves or time, they lose a life, which recharges over time. Players can also login to Facebook, and send or receive free lives as gifts between friends.

Heini Kaihu, head of studio at Rovio, said in a statement:

We’re so pleased to take Angry Birds Stella POP! globally. If you love bubble shooters, you will absolutely love Angry Birds Stella POP! Marrying an old-school bubble-popping gameplay mechanic with the Angry Birds Stella world and cast of memorable characters, Stella POP! is its own, very colorful bird of a different feather.

Angry Birds Stella POP is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.
