Barnes & Noble Likely To Launch A New Nook Color

Barnes & Noble is likely to release a new tablet this year.

According to a confidential Barnes & Noble business plan slide that we have seen, the retailer has will have three eReaders available for sale in the fourth quarter. The Smart Touch for $139, which is already available, as well as two Nook Colors — the Encore and the Acclaim, which will cost $249 and $349 respectively. The Encore is the name of the Nook Color which is already available for $249, but the Acclaim is a new product not currently available.

So the document suggests that Barnes & Noble will have a higher end tablet out before the year is through. The document says “Approved WL/JI, 9/16/2011.” This is likely the approval of B&N CEO William Lynch and James Iannone, the head of B&N Digital Products.

This comes as Amazon is likely to put out a tablet computer. This has been rumored to happen for a while, and Amazon just announced a press conference next week, where we expect to see this release. Via The Digital Reader.
