Beat Switches at Politico

This is one of those memos that’s likely far more interesting for those inside Politico than those outside it. But here you have it — four beat switches. MJ Lee moves from assistant editor on the 44 page to the breaking news team. Kendra Marr shifts to Politico Pro where she’ll probably enjoy being managed by fan favorite Tim Grieve. Abby Phillip heads to Money and Politics after a year covering the White House beat and a summer internship at Politico. And Reid Epstein moves to the Politics beat to help cover the 2012 presidential race.

We’d like to announce some changes in the newsroom – all geared toward giving a boost to some of our most critical coverage areas. Kendra Marr moves to (ahem) Tim Grieve and the Politico Pro team.

MJ Lee moves to the breaking news team. MJ started at POLITICO as a web producer and quickly showed that she was ready to jump into covering the news. She proved to be a sharp observer of White House comings and goings as assistant editor on the 44 page.

Kendra Marr moves to Politico Pro. Kendra came to us from the Washington Post, where she built on her beat in the Loudoun County bureau to cover all manner of front-page stories. Her time keeping an eye on Newt Gingrich and Tim Pawlenty prepared her well to help Tim Grieve and the folks on Pro start up an important new initiative.

Abby Phillip moves to the Money and Politics team. Abby stood out so much during a POLITICO summer internship that we brought her on board full time. Her White House experience over the past year adds even more firepower to Laura McGann’s new team.

Reid Epstein moves to Politics, where he’ll help out during crunch time in the 2012 campaign. We don’t know if covering Mitt Romney or Rick Perry could ever be as fun as covering Carl Paladino, as Reid did while covering politics for Newsday, but he’ll have a chance to find out.
