Today marks the debut of USA Weekly, a 24-page full-color tabloid insert bundled with the Friday American edition of daily international English language newspaper The China Daily.
The cover story is titled “How the West is Being Won,” but don’t be alarmed, for now they’re referring only to the west of China. Today’s debut mag also has an intriguing article about the manufacture of iPad clones.
China Weekly‘s print edition is currently distributed in eight U.S. cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Houston and Atlanta. In the related press release, the head of China Daily‘s stateside operations sounds like he’s talking about a different landscape than the one we media watchers are used to moaning and groaning about:
“We have seen a marked rise in demand for information on China from around the world, given the rapid progress in the world’s second-largest economy,” said Mr. Larry Lee, president of China Daily USA Ltd.
There are plans to add Boston as a ninth U.S. distribution city and expand into Canada for a total North American circulation of around 200,000.
