Discovery Communications announced today changes to its parental leave policy, with an expansive understanding of “parental.” Under its new policy, Discovery is providing 12 weeks of full paid leave that applies to to paternity leave, maternity leave, domestic partners and adoptive and foster parents. Leave can either be consecutive or spread out over the course of a year.
The 12-week policy extends not only to new or growing families, but to caregivers responsible for an ailing family member.
“This new policy marks a proud moment for Discovery and is something we hope will retain and attract great talent for many years to come. Ultimately, it’s about family. We are here for our Discovery family, so they can be there for theirs,” said chief human resources and global diversity officer Adria Alpert Romm in a statement.
The new policy will take effect in 2017.
