Don Lemon Dominated 2014

No media personality conquered 2014 quite like CNN’s Don Lemon. The 48-year-old co-host of CNN Tonight kept popping up in the biggest news stories of the year for all the wrong reasons. He repeatedly said the most wrong/offensive/inane thing possible.

Lemon f*cked up with such persistence and perfection that it seemed like it was his super power. In honor of Lemon’s amazingness, below are some of his best moments. Needless to say, we’re looking forward to 2015.

  • In March, Lemon wondered if a black hole swallowed MH370, the missing Malaysian Airlines plane. Lemon actually asked Mary Schiavo, the former U.S. Department of Transportation inspector general, if this was possible. He picked up on this brilliant theory from Lost. Yes, the TV show Lost. Schiavo somehow maintained her composure and gave a thoughtful reply. Strong work by Lemon, stronger work by Schiavo.
  • Sticking with the “TV could be real!” theme, in June — while reporting on the release of Bowe Bergdahl — Lemon thought it’d be a good idea to compare Bergdahl and Brody from Homeland. “Do you see similarities between Bowe Bergdahl’s release and your character Sgt. Nicholas Brody in Homeland?” Lemon asked Homeland’s executive producer, Gideon Raff.
  • In November, Lemon asked Joan Tarshis — a woman who alleged that Bill Cosby had sexually assaulted her — why she didn’t bite Cosby’s penis to stop the attack. Somehow Lemon avoided mentioning a TV show during the interview, so this might have been his best moment of the year.
  • Shortly after the Tarshis piece, Lemon stated “Obviously, there’s the smell of marijuana in the air” while covering the protests in Ferguson, Missouri. If there’s a 100 percent wrong thing to say, obviously Lemon is saying it.
