Facebook continued to flex its green thumb, reportedly buying a stack of domain names having to do with clean and sustainable energy using the identity shielding MarkMonitor service.
Fusible reported that MarkMonitor registered the following addresses on Monday, none of which leads to an active website:

  • facebookcleanenergy.com
  • facebookcleanenergy.net
  • facebookcleanenergy.org
  • facebookenergy.org
  • facebookenergy.net
  • facebooksocialenergy.com
  • facebooksocialenergy.net
  • facebooksocialenergy.org
  • facebooksustainability.com
  • facebooksustainability.net
  • facebooksustainability.org
  • sustainablefacebook.com
  • sustainablefacebook.net
  • sustainablefacebook.org

Facebook and Greenpeace announced in December that they would work together to promote clean and sustainable energy. And the social network announced a partnership with the Natural Resources Defense Council and Opower in October.
The green domain-name registrations could very well have to do with either or both of these partnerships, based on what we’ve seen in one of Facebook’s most purchase of a group of addresses: Domains based on the phrase Timeline Movie Maker became the home turf for an application by that name created with Definition6.
Readers: What uses do you think Facebook has in mind for the green domains it registered?
