The social network teamed up with Apartment List and Zumper to add “hundreds of thousands” of available housing rental units on Marketplace.

Facebook said in an email to Social Pro Daily that search volume in its Marketplace tab has tripled since the beginning of the year.

The initial phase of the rollout of housing rental unit listings on Marketplace includes:

  • Custom filters for criteria such as location, price, number of bedrooms, number of bathrooms, rental type, square footage and whether the unit is dog-friendly and/or cat-friendly.

  • A broad selection of rental listings.

  • The ability to upload 360 photos to individual rental listings.

Facebook said in its email that the addition of housing rental unit listings to Marketplace, as well as the new features for car shoppers that were announced last month, “are driven by how people are searching and using the service,” and the social network will continue to “explore a variety of new opportunities to partner with businesses.”

Product manager Bowen Pan added, “Marketplace is a popular place for people to look for a home to rent. Now that we’re adding listings from Apartment List and Zumper, people can search even more options in the U.S. to find a place to call home. First with vehicles and now with housing rentals, we’re partnering with businesses to bring more ease and convenience for consumers.”

Apartment list co-founder and chief operating officer Chris Erickson said in a statement supplied by Facebook, “We’re thrilled to partner with Facebook to deliver our robust network of properties to its expansive and diverse Marketplace community. Together, we will provide renters everywhere a best-in-class experience and powerful resource to help them find their next home.”

Zumper CEO Anthemos Georgiades added, “Working with the Facebook Marketplace team was like working with a like-minded, rapid growth startup. We got our feed integrated quickly and were able to showcase our accurate, real-time rental listings on Marketplace overnight. By adding Facebook to our network, we are especially excited to expand the audience that Zumper’s landlord clients can reach, whether by posting to Zumper Pro or sending us a feed.”
