Did you know that you can choose which users are allowed to see your Story posts on Facebook and Facebook Messenger? Our guide will show you how to change your Story’s privacy setting within the Messenger application.

Note: These screenshots were captured in the Messenger app on iOS.

Step 1: Tap the “Me” button in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

Note: If your app doesn’t have a “Me” button, you should be able to tap on your profile picture in the top-left corner of the screen instead to go to the “Me” page.

Step 2: Scroll down and tap “Story.”

Step 3: Tap one of the four options to change your Story’s privacy setting. Specifically, tap “Public” to allow everyone (even non-connections) to see your Story posts. Tap “Friends and Connections” to allow your Facebook friends, as well as your Messenger connections, to view your Story. Tap “Friends” to allow only your Facebook friends to see your Story posts. Finally, tap “Custom” to create a list of users who will be allowed to see your Story. To be especially clear, when you select the “Custom” setting, anyone who isn’t on your custom list won’t be able to see your Story posts.

Step 4 (optional): If you selected “Custom,” scroll through your list of contacts and tap the users you want to add to your list. You can also search for contacts individually by tapping the search bar at the top of the screen.
