PREVIEW: Facebook Factors Into Most SXSW Events

Social media has a role in nearly all the 5,000-plus events happening at South by Southwest, including the music and film sessions. Here are some highlights.

It’s that time of year again, when Facebook news feeds become clogged with posts from the hipster enclave of Austin, Texas, otherwise known as the home of the annual South by Southwest festival.

While the technology portion of SXSW runs from March 9 through March 13, 2012, social media factors into nearly all of the 5,000-plus events, including the music and film sessions.

Using the official SXSW Facebook page, we’ve culled highlights from among the various panels, talks and parties.

This invitation-only event doesn’t promise to make news, but does offer beer, food, and of course, “apps” and partners.
