Facebook introduced Account Kit at F8 2016 in April of that year as a way for developers to enable users to log into applications with their phone numbers or email addresses and register for those apps without creating passwords, but the social network will begin phasing out the product.
Mak provided the following timetable for phasing out Account Kit:
- Sept. 9: Account Kit is no longer integrating with new apps as of Monday, but existing integrations will continue to function normally.
- Dec. 9: The daily SMS limit for developers using SMS to verify phone number will be lowered to 1,000 messages per app, per day.
- March 9, 2020: Account Kit will no longer be available for developers and partners.
- June 2020: Developers and partners must retrieve data and information from the Facebook platform, unless they previously decided to initiate deletion, in which case their data can be retrieved for 30 days before being deleted from Facebook’s system.
