Zynga confirmed today that it has acquired Omgpop, maker of Draw Something.
The companies wouldn’t disclose the terms of the deal, although Bloomberg cited an anonymous source as saying Zynga paid $200 million.
That would amount to Zynga’s largest acquisition ever, by at least fourfold.
New York-based Omgpop also makes 35 other social games, but Draw Something is the vendor’s first real hit and one of the fastest growing games of all time.
In the six weeks since Draw Something launched, it has been downloaded over 35 million times and:
- In the last week, more than one billion drawings have been created;
- Draw Something had three drawings per second the day the game launched;
- Yesterday, Draw Something has over 3,000 drawings per second at its peak;
- Draw Something is the number one word game in 84 countries according to the Apple app store;
Draw Something is currently available on Apple and Android handhelds. The app has a fan page on Facebook, but has yet to debut the game on the social network.
As for the acquisition itself, Omgpop’s Chief Executive Officer Dan Porter will become vice president and general manager of Zynga New York.

Omgpop began as iminlikewithyou, a social network for people to meet and play games. In 2009, the company launched the gaming site Omgpop.com.
As for Zynga, acquisitions like this one might explain why it won’t receive any of the proceeds from the secondary stock offer that the company just registered for — some of that money would be going to Omgpop.
Zynga has previously acquired 22 different companies during 2010 and 2011, paying out a total of $147.2 million for them. These buys have included:
- Area/Code, the co-creator of CSI: Crime City, based in New York;
- Newtoy, in McKinney, Texas, which created the mobile version of Words With Friends;
- XPD in Beijing;
- Challenge Games in Austin;
- Unoh Games in Tokyo;
- Conduit Labs in Boston;
- Dextrose AG in Frankfurt;
- Bonfire Studios in Dallas; and
- Flock in Menlo Park.
