Funtactix, which specializes in games based on television and movie properties, has announced its partnership with MGM Interactive to release Hot Tub Time Machine: Tap That, a hidden object game on mobile devices. Funtactix has given us an exclusive first look at the game, which will take players back into the world of the Hot Tub Time Machine franchise, ahead of the release of Hot Tub Time Machine 2 in theaters on February 20, 2015.
In Hot Tub Time Machine: Tap That, players will travel through many eras in time and explore themed environments, from wild parties to Neanderthal caves and a future world populated by robots and holograms. The overall goal of the game will be to collect clues and help the film’s stars “put together the pieces from yet another blacked out bender in the tub.”
As players complete scenes, they’ll find items amid large junk piles, and will have access to multiple power-ups to help them out in each scene. From early screenshots, it appears some scenes may be timed, with at least one power-up relating to this timing mechanic. A combo points system also looks to be in place, which will presumably reward players with more points for finding items in rapid succession.
“We’re big fans of Hot Tub Time Machine and have been having a blast making this game with our partners at MGM,” said Aaron Berndtson, head of business development at Funtactix, in a statement. “Just like the films, fans can expect a game that is irreverent, outrageous and a lot of fun.”
Hot Tub Time Machine: Tap That will hit iOS and Android devices in 2015. Check back soon for more.
