Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told host Chris Wallace that while the United States “generally enjoys a significant military advantage… We have peer competitors in cyber.”

In regard to cyber warfare, however, he continued “we don’t have an advantage. It’s a level playing field and that makes this chairman very uncomfortable.”

Earlier today, the Twitter and Youtube accounts of CENTCOM posted threatening messages to American troops by Islamic State sympathizers. Although Dempsey was addressing the threat of North Korean cyber attacks, his statement on yesterday’s show highlights the point that there is a “level playing field” out there and that the United States has “peer competitors” across the globe.
