Instagram began testing Instagram Direct messages via the web on desktop in January, and the Facebook-owned photo- and video-sharing platform released the feature worldwide Friday.

Other than the “small percentage” of users who were part of the test group, Instagram Direct messages could previously be send only via its mobile applications.

The process is similar to sending Instagram Direct messages via the apps: The Direct icon appears in the top-right-hand corner, and clicking on it displays all existing conversations on the left side of the screen.

DMs can also be initiated via other users’ profiles by tapping on the message icon.

And desktop notifications can be activated for Instagram Direct DMs.
