Instagram recently introduced the ability for users to add GIFs to their Stories posts, in the same way that they would add normal stickers. Powered by Giphy, this feature allows users to browse trending GIFs or search for GIFs manually. Our guide will show you how to add GIFs to your own posts.
Note: These screenshots were captured in the Instagram application on iOS.
Step 1: Tap the camera icon in the top-left corner of the Instagram home feed.
Step 2: Tap the large circular button at the bottom of the screen to take a new photo. Note: GIFs can be added to other kinds of posts as well, such as videos and Boomerangs. You can switch between capture modes by swiping left and right at the bottom of the screen. You can also import content from your camera roll.
Step 3: Once you’ve captured or imported your content, tap the the smiling-face icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
Step 4: Tap the GIF button.
Step 5: Either scroll through the trending GIFs and tap one to add it to your post, or tap the search bar to search for a GIF.
Step 6 (optional): If you decide to search for a GIF, type the keyword you want to search for and scroll through the list of search results that appears. If you find a GIF you like, tap it to add it to your post.
After you add a GIF to your post, you can use pinch-to-zoom and drag controls to change its size, orientation and location. You can also add additional GIFs to the post, if you’d like. Finally, if you want to delete a GIF from your post, tap and hold on the GIF to cause a trash can to appear near the bottom of the screen. Drag the GIF to the trash can to delete it.
