Instagram has named Marne Levine its chief operating officer, reports Recode. She had been VP of global public policy at Facebook, and will be the first COO the company has had.
Levine has been at Facebook for the past four years. Before that, she was the chief of staff for the White House National Economic Council. She describes her career as “meandering with a sense of purpose.”
Levine will manage Instagram’s day-to-day internal operations, including things like human resources, policy and communications, according to an Instagram spokesperson. Her specific duties are still being ironed out, but she’ll also have a hand in some capacity on the moneymaking side of the business, helping to oversee things like partnerships, marketing, monetization and business operations, the spokesperson added.
She’ll join the Facebook-owned service in a few months, and report to CEO Kevin Systrom.
