How to Keep Your Data Safe on Facebook [Infographic]

Despite widespread privacy concerns, Facebook continues to be the most popular social network on the Internet.

Facebook users are often concerned about their privacy, and while the network might define privacy differently than its users do, there are still ways to protect yourself from certain threats.

According to an infographic from WhoIsHostingThis, despite widespread concerns about privacy, less than 40 percent of users actually change their settings to protect their data and nearly 30 percent share with an audience wider than “Friends.”

In addition to the impact your Facebook content can have on anything from job prospects to college admission, the biggest threats are spam, identity theft, stalkers, profiling and data harvesting. In fact, since 2008 Twitter and Facebook related crime has increased nearly 800 percent.

So what’s a user to do? WhoIsHostingThis recommends the following:

  • Share content with people you know and trust
  • Create different passwords for each social networking account
  • Carefully consider what information you really want to share
