This morning social TV platform Miso has announced a brand new partnership with DIRECTV, the world’s largest pay TV service, that is taking social TV to the next level, actually connecting Miso to your DIRECTV so that the app knows what you’re watching when you’re watching it. The new Miso iPhone app is the first social TV app that actually synchronizes with your television viewing, so you can say goodbye to manually searching. Just tap the app and it already knows what your watching.
According to a press release, “Miso’s second-screen experience introduces the first television app that takes advantage of DIRECTV’s HD set top boxes’ unique ability to communicate with mobile and tablet apps over the customer’s home network.” For the app to work, all you need is to have your phone connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your DIRECTV internet-enabled receiver.
Rômulo Pontual, DIRECTV CTO, says, “The integration of Miso’s social TV app adds another dimension to the viewing experience and supports DIRECTV’s strategy to assist customers in discovering television shows, sports and movies through their friends and social connections.” Somrat Niyogi, CEO of Miso, adds, “Our partnership with DIRECTV is a big step toward delivering a truly connected home experience because, for the first time ever, a social TV app will enable viewers to easily share what they’re watching, as they’re watching it. DIRECTV is a leader in providing innovative entertainment and we’re excited to be working with them to deliver this industry first. This is just the first of many new partnerships we’ll announce in the coming months.”
