NPR’s Lourdes Garcia-Navarro to Win Edward R. Murrow Award

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting has announced that NPR foreign correspondent Lourdes Garcia-Navarro will be the recipient of its annual Edward R. Murrow Award for public radio excellence.

“I am deeply honored to receive the Edward R. Murrow award from CPB,” Garcia-Navarro says in the release. “Covering foreign news has become more dangerous, expensive and complicated than ever but it has never been more vital. My overseas colleagues often put themselves in harm’s way to report stories that illuminate global events and their impact for our audience. I humbly accept this award on behalf of my fellow foreign correspondents and the local staff who help them.”

Garcia-Navarro won, in part, for her coverage of the Arab Spring and for her front-line reporting from Libya. She will be officially awarded the prize later this month.
