The Phhhoto app doesn’t allow users to import images from their device. Instead, users must take new pictures within the app. Each time users tap the button to take a photo, the app automatically takes multiple pictures and loops these as a short video which plays back and forth indefinitely. Users can add a filter to their video, or give it a description before sharing it to their feed. Users can also share their posts out to social media.
As a social platform, users can follow others on Phhhoto, and can post likes or comments on content. In addition to browsing a feed of moving images from users they follow, Phhhoto users can browse the ‘Wow’ feed to discover featured posts. A separate ‘People’ section is also available, which contains featured users.
Phhhoto is now available to download for free on Google Play. To celebrate Halloween, Phhhoto has created a series of ‘Phhhoto horror stories,’ which tell short stories through multiple moving pictures. The app will offer filters each day this week to help users create their own stories.
Instagram recently released Boomerang, its own standalone app based on this ‘moving pictures’ concept, on iOS and Android devices.
