Press Release Alert: Rev. Al Sharpton Got A Birthday Call From Hillary Clinton

She couldn't make it to the party.

Rev. Al Sharpton, civil rights activist and MSNBC host, turns 60 this Friday so he threw himself a birthday party at the Four Seasons last night. And the guest list includes some notable names: Spike Lee, Sen Chuck Schumer, Mayor Bill de Blasio Aretha Franklin and BET CEO Debra Lee among them.

One of the names not on the list was Hillary Clinton. But don’t worry folks. The Rev’s birthday wasn’t ruined by her absence. Indeed, she did call to send her regards. And we got the scoop from Rev. Al himself, who issued a press release with the news.

“A half hour before going on his MSNBC show PoliticsNation with Al Sharpton, Rev. Sharpton received a call from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who wished him a happy early birthday (Sharpton will be sixty this Friday),” it reads.

Rev. Al has a long history with the Clintons, so it stands to reason that she would call. Maybe Bill was on the phone in the kitchen while she was on the phone in the den? Certainly this isn’t news that warrants a press release. Or is it? There’s more!

“Rev. Sharpton told Mrs. Clinton, ‘I will make one birthday vow to you. I will stay on the front lines of civil rights and activism until your granddaughter Charlotte gets old enough to vote.’ At which they both chuckled.”

Now I’m chuckling. #Hallelujah

Rev. Sharpton also live tweeted his party, shouting out all of the cool guests that were there, as one does.

Separately but related, the party also had a philanthropic twist, with benefits going to the Rev’s organization, the National Action Network, of course. Those giving $1,500 getting “medallion” status. A $2,500 gift will get you “tracksuit” status. And $25,000 earning “preacher” status. #Amen
