Ketchum announced that European digital director Stephen Waddington has been promoted to the newly created global role of chief engagement officer. Waddington assumes his new role immediately. As chief engagement officer, Waddington will drive the integration and innovation of digital and social capabilities throughout the Ketchum network. Specifically, he will accelerate the implementation of cutting-edge digital and social media strategy in existing account relationships, and he will act as a change agent, ambassador and thought leader for the agency on modern forms of engagement and public relations practice. He also will work to ensure the most current tools, resources and best practices from across the global network are leveraged for all client engagements, as well as provide lead senior counsel on integrated global accounts. Purple Strategies announced that former Congressman Tim Griffin has joined the firm as senior advisor for communications and growth strategies. Griffin was elected Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas on November 4, 2014 and took office on January 13, 2015. The Office of Lieutenant Governor for the State of Arkansas has historically been a part-time position, with many of its former occupants holding simultaneous public and private employment. He was elected to Congress in 2010 from Arkansas’ Second Congressional District and served on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee and as a Deputy Majority Whip. He has served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 18 years, was deployed to Iraq and holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He also served as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas and Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Political Affairs for President George W. Bush. (Arkansas Business)

UK-based Portland Communications hired Scott Nolan Smith as Associate director of its recently-established Washington, D.C. office. Smith, who previously served as head of digital diplomacy at the British embassy in Washington, will advise Portland clients on “media and digital engagement strategy, international affairs, diplomatic communications and digital transformation.” Smith will report to Portland US General Manager David MacKay. (Bulldog Reporter)
