Rush Limbaugh Signs Up For Twitter, And Hasn’t Ranted… Yet

Notoriously outspoken conservative Rush Limbaugh has just signed up for Twitter, in an attempt to battle his critics and rally his supporters. Will you follow him?

If you’re interested, you’ll find Limbaugh tweeting at @Limbaugh. However, if you’re looking for a juicy rant or an even juicier meltdown, you’re out of luck: so far, Limbaugh has only tweeted two pretty innocuous tweets.

He’s linked to two articles that address his recent sponsorship scandal. Of course, they defend Limbaugh and malign Media Matters, an organization which had helped a campaign to boycott sponsors of Limbaugh’s radio show after he made inflammatory remarks in a broadcast.

Limbaugh first announced his Twitter account on his radio show on Thursday, later explaining to Politico his reasoning for setting up the account:

“Everybody has been asking me what they can do to help in all of this, and I’ve been saying, ‘Nah, just do what you’ve been doing just, if you listen, keep listening, that’s fine. But there’s an army out there that wants to be mobilized, and so, I figured, use Twitter for it. I’m just going to put some things on Twitter that you can help us circulate. It’s that simple you just retweet them.”

And he might be right about Twitter being the perfect place to mobilize his “army”: he’s accumulated about 113,000 followers in just 24 hours. Some of those followers were already following his dormant @Limbaugh account, which he scooped up years ago just to have the handle, but thousands have signed on to hear what this political lightening rod has to tweet next..
