Almost one in four American adults now use Twitter, placing it fifth amongst social networks in the country, reveals a new study.
In their Social Media Update 2014, the Pew Research Internet Project found that 23 percent of American adults are on Twitter, up from 18 percent in 2013.
Facebook remains the number one social platform in the U.S., although it hasn’t seen any growth since 2013, and maintains its 71 percent penetration rate.
LinkedIn is equal second, with 28 percent, tied with Pinterest, ahead of Instagram (26 percent) and Twitter.
The study also found that 36 percent of social media users are active on Twitter on a daily basis, which is down from 46 percent in 2013.
70 percent use Facebook daily, with 49 percent logging on to their Instagram account every 24 hours.
