In the fall of 2011, Kevin Driscoll began his media career as an editorial intern with Charlie Rose’s PBS talk show. He stepped over to the non-profit side for his next job, but since 2013, it’s been all media.
Following stints with Bleacher Report and DailyMail.com, the Stonehill College political science major is set to begin his next chapter. Here’s the memo from Sports Illustrated Group digital editor Mark McClusky:
I’m excited to share that we’ve hired Kevin Driscoll as the social media director for Sports Illustrated.
Kevin joins us from the Daily Mail, where he was deputy social media editor. In that role, he set the brand’s U.S. strategy across all platforms, and took the lead in helping increase the Mail’s social video presence. During his time there, the Mail grew to over 1 billion views on its Facebook video, while fueling massive growth across other platforms.
Before the Daily Mail, Kevin spent several years at Bleacher Report, where he worked on the social and breaking news teams. Kevin has also worked on multiple political campaigns, including the Obama campaign. (When you get a chance, ask Kevin what it was like manning the Daily Mail accounts on election night.) He’s also a huge sports fan, although I’m sad to say that he is, in fact, yet another Patriots fan.
In this role, Kevin—reporting to me—will manage the strategy, development, programming, and production across all of SI’s social channels. He’ll be focused on creating socially relevant content, reaching new audiences, and driving growth both on our own sites, and on these platforms. I’m thrilled to have Kevin joining us, and working with Stef, Mitch, Mike, and Gino, and everyone here at SI, to help take our social efforts to the next level.
Driscoll starts Jan. 3.
