The FishbowlDC Interview With Free Beacon‘s Kredo

The Washington Free Beacon isn’t even a year old, but it’s humming right along. Under the editorship of Matthew Continetti, the conservative paper was founded with the purpose of  “uncovering the stories that the professional left hopes will never see the light of day.”

On board from the day the news outlet began is foreign policy and national security reporter Adam Kredo, towering at 5’2″ (in his heels, he says). He was born in Philadelphia and raised in Langhorne, Pa. Still a student at Boston University, Kredo ventured to D.C. in 2006 for an internship at WJLA. He said the experience introduced him to the “terrible, soul-crushing profession called political reporting.” He hasn’t looked back since.

So let’s begin…

If you were a carbonated beverage, which would you be?

Beer. Lots and lots of beer (possibly a Flying Dog brew). And I’d be poured into Das Boot.

How often do you Google yourself?

I obsessively Google myself as often as possible because I’m shallow and narcissistic to the point of delusion. Additionally, people should follow me on Twitter, where I frequently retweet myself – @Kredo0.

What’s the worst thing you’ve ever said to an editor/boss (or vice versa)?

This isn’t rude, but it is cringe inducing. I once told an editor that my journalism is “immaculate.” This is still the case.

Who is your favorite working journalist and why?

Two of them: Bill Gertz and Eli Lake because they are first class patriots.

Do you have a favorite word?

Who would you rather have dinner with – FNC’s Bill O’Reilly, NBC’s Brian Williams or ABC’s Diane Sawyer. Tell us why.

Brian Williams because I respect his terrible appearances on several above average comedy shows.

The Earth’s human population is dying out and you must save it. You will spend a romantic evening with either CNN’s Candy Crowley or FNC’s Greta Van Susteren (significant others will understand).

Who will it be? Both.

What swear word do you use most often?

You’ve just been told the big news: You get to have your own Sunday morning talk show. Who will be on your roundtable? (Pick four journalists or pundits types.)

I would just commandeer MSNBC’s The Cycle.

On a serious note for a moment, if you could have dinner with a person who has died, who would it be?

It would have to be George Carlin. He was not only one of the most prolific and hilarious comedians in history, but was also a masterful wordsmith.

Who is your favorite Boybander and why? (Ezzy, Hazy, Weigel, Attackerman, Beutler)

Weigel is my hero because he manages to piss off nearly every person on Twitter. This is talent. He’s also a fine reporter.

There’s much more to learn about Kredo…

When you pig out what do you eat?

My wonderful fiancé is a professional chef, so I gorge myself on all types of delicacies, including sketti.

What is your absolute favorite item of clothing in your closet? We want the fabric, the brand, the store and the price if possible. If it’s a certain kind of underwear we don’t want to know about it.

I spend many cold winter evenings in my red J. Crew onesie, complete with a butt flap. It was given to me as a gift so I’m not certain of the cost.

Pick one: Mad Men, The Newsroom or True Blood.

Man Men.

Have you ever had a tarot card reading?

Multiple times.

Have you ever had a near-death experience?

Ever been arrested?

Tell us a secret not many people know about you.

I originally intended to be a “broadcast journalist,” a term I later learned was an oxymoron. Somewhere on the Internet there are probably videos of me doing painfully embarrassing stand ups. I actually interned at WJLA earlier in the decade.

What scares you?

Human interaction. That’s why I’m a reporter.

What’s your most embarrassing career moment?

Nothing specific comes to mind. I try to behave myself. However, I do feel embarrassed nearly every time I step out in public, so there’s that.

Have you ever been fired?

Never. I’m just too good.

When and why did you last laugh so hard you had tears in your eyes?

Probably while reading the website It’s one of those websites you can’t look away from.

When and why did you last lose your temper?

Writing copy on deadline when my word processor crashed, erasing everything. If this has ever happened to you, you’re aware that the resulting feeling of rage and despair is all encompassing.

Who would you want to play you in a movie?

Danny DeVito.

Do you have a me-wall? If so, who’s on it?

I’ve hung up various New York Post covers with my face strategically pasted on.

Who should just call it a day?

Honestly, if you’re currently making a buck in journalism, more power to you.

Breakfast food of choice? Don’t say coffee:

Grits with butter, salt, and cheddar cheese.

Favorite foreign country that you’ve visited:

Israel, obviously, because I’m an ‘Israel firster’.

A question from WaPo‘s Greg Sargent: How many years do you think choosing to go into the politics/media racket will take off your lifespan?

Not nearly as many as watching MSNBC everyday has cost me.

Finally, please come up with a question for our next FishbowlDC interviewee. This one may live on indefinitely. Make it good.

Who is the best known media personality you’ve been intimate with?
