The Washington Post Finds a New Place for Local News Coverage in a Partnership With Nextdoor

It's one of the first news orgs to partner with the neighborhood-based social site

Having checked the boxes on maintaining a presence on a typical set of social platforms, as well as devices like Amazon Echo, The Washington Post joins forces with a social up-and-comer for its newest partnership with Nextdoor, a private social network designed as a neighborhood-based virtual meeting place through which to exchange neighborhood news, information, requests or even greetings.

The Washington Post is the first news publications in the Washington area, and one of the first in the Northeast, to partner with Nextdoor. In addition to the Post stories about local, neighborhood-specific news on a range of topics from crime to entertainment that will appear appear in users’ feeds, the Post will also be able to interact with users.

Ideally, the network will also encourage the Post to increase its output of local stories, with Nextdoor users as potential sources and bearers of tips.

Nextdoor maintains a presence in about 145,000 neighborhoods in the United States. Other news orgs who have recently announced partnerships with the network include ABC Houston in Texas, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in Missouri and KQED in California.
