Sarah Jessica Parker, a fashion icon because of her star turn as Carrie Bradshaw on Sex & the City, returned to the show’s now famous brownstone to shoot a video introducing us to her new SJP Collection, available at Nordstrom. Just look. She’s wearing a cute dress, the shoes are colorful and bright. And the throwback reference is pitch perfect.
Unfortunately, the neighbors at this Manhattan address are still coping with the swarms of SATC fans who come to the building to snap a photo and otherwise annoy the people who live there. So they’re not happy that SJP ignored signs asking people to keep their distance. But come on… the shoes!
I’m a native New Yorker and I can only imagine the traffic that these folks have to deal with because of the show, even though it’s long been off the air. (Though it might be making a comeback at movie theaters. Again.) A sign asking people to stay off the steps of the building is clearly there. And certainly, SJP or her people should’ve been in contact with the owners for permission if she hadn’t been. Judging by the photos, Parker took some liberties.
But this video is the absolute perfect social media launch piece for this line of shoes tapping into the continued love of that show, the glamour of the character and the love of cute footwear.
If you do a quick search of Sarah Jessica Parker on Google News, all of the headlines say that the residents are upset. And it’s obnoxious if the shoot didn’t follow the rules. (SJP hasn’t responded to inquiries. Judging by her Instagram account, she’s in Rome.) But the stories do include the photos and the clip, so there’s that.
