TikTok Secured Assets From Content Personalization Platform GeoGif

It creates animated stickers and more

If a user is vacationing in Miami, GeoGif would present them with an appropriately themed overlay

Popular video-sharing platform TikTok secured assets from content personalization company GeoGif.

GeoGif was spun off from its parent company, Bivid, two years ago. It creates animated stickers and location-based overlays that users can place on top of their content before sharing it with friends.

For instance, if a user is vacationing in Miami, the GeoGif platform would present them with an appropriately themed overlay based on that location.

Dean Glas, co-founder and CEO of GeoGif, said, “We are excited for GeoGif to have a new home at TikTok, and we believe our features will be enjoyed by millions of users. We will work closely to make sure it’s a smooth transition that provides a long-term positive impact for the TikTok community.”

A TikTok spokesperson added, “GeoGif and TikTok share a common goal, which is enabling people to connect, consume and create great content. We’re impressed with what the team at GeoGif has built and, with TikTok’s resources, we believe that we will deliver an even better user experience for our millions of users who love using TikTok to express their creativity through short videos.”

Glas and co-founder Mendy Raskin will not be joining TikTok, saying that they had no interest in being part of a larger company.

Glas plans to establish a tech-driven investment firm to fund early-stage startups in the U.S. and Israel, as well as developing new stealth startup SellX. And Raskin will invest in real estate sectors via his company, RaskinRisers, and form new startup Investopals.

According to data insights firm Sensor Tower, in terms of downloads, TikTok was the No. 4 non-video-game mobile application in 2018. Sensor Tower said TikTok has been installed more than 1 billion times on iOS and Android devices around the world, not including Android installs in China.
