Record for a set amount of time

Did you know that TikTok allows you to record videos using a countdown timer? With this feature, you can tell the application to record for a set amount of time after you press the capture button (and after a three-second countdown, so that you can prepare). When the timer is finished, the app will stop recording without requiring you to press another button. Our guide will show you how to capture a video using the timer feature.

Note: These screenshots were captured in the TikTok app on iOS.

Step 1: On the TikTok capture screen, tap “Timer” on the right side of the screen.

Step 2: Drag your finger left and right on the vertical pink line at the bottom of the screen to set how long you want the app to record. Note: If you’re in the 60s capture mode, you can record anywhere from 0.1 to 59 seconds. If you’re in the 15s capture mode, you can record from 0.1 to 15 seconds.

Step 3: When you’ve set the desired time, tap “Start Countdown.”

Immediately after you tap “Start Countdown,” the app will count down from three and then begin recording. It will stop recording after it reaches the time limit you set in Step 2 above. Note: You can also stop the recording early by tapping the capture button at the bottom of the screen.
