Twitter announced during its third-quarter-2017 earnings report that it was testing a self-serve advertising subscription offering, and that offering is launching Wednesday.
Director of product management Wook Chung announced in a blog post that the social network is launching a public beta version of Promote Mode, Twitter’s first subscription ad product.
Promote Mode enables small and midsized businesses and personal brands to conduct ad campaigns on Twitter for $99 per month, and with minimal extra effort, if any.
Promote Mode is currently available in public beta in the U.S. and U.K., and its dashboard is accessible via Twitter’s flagship mobile applications. SMBs and users can sign up here.
Chung said Japan will get Promote Mode “in the near future,” adding that it is also available via the customer-relationship-management system of Twitter Official Partner Sprout Social.
Chung explained how Promote Mode works: “Promote Mode is an always-on amplification engine. It automatically promotes your tweets and profile, steadily attracting more followers and additional reach for a flat fee of $99 per month. There’s no ad campaign management necessary. People using Promote Mode just tweet as they normally do, publishing updates about their business, brand or content that will interest their target audience.”
SMBs and users can access Promote Mode via the mobile app by sliding open the menu drawer and tapping the Promote Mode icon, which will bring up a dashboard with the following metrics:
- How many additional users were reached by tweets.
- How many followers were gained.
- How many users visited profiles that month.
Chung said factors that will affect performance include account type, targeting selection and type and frequency of tweets, adding that promoted reach is displayed alongside organic activity, providing a look at the impact of Promote Mode.
He added, “Small businesses and individuals using Promote Mode can expect their followers and influence to steadily grow every month, as long as they are actively tweeting. The most successful people will keep Promote Mode toggled on while they focus on creating their best tweets. But if they need to take a break, they can toggle Promote Mode off and pause all promotions. This doesn’t pause their subscription or billing.”
