Echelon Insights tracked 184.5 million Twitter mentions to see what America was talking about over the past 12 months, and found that the Ferguson grand jury and shooting were the most-discussed news topics on Twitter in 2014.
Election Day, the State of the Union address and the Donald Sterling/Los Angeles Clippers scandal were next.
President Obama was the most talked about politician of the year.
