Countless #PRFail lists and stories (including ours) have revolved around the popular, combative ride-sharing service Uber. Competitor Lyft, on the other side of the wheel, doesn’t get nearly as much publicity…
Who would have ever thought these two companies could ever collaborate?
It’s happening in the name of good PR, putting differences (or the lack thereof) aside, and getting a little “M.A.D.D.” for New Year’s Eve.
Whenever two siblings or friends can’t ever get along and keep beating each other like they are at MMA tryouts, it always takes a loving mother to get them to stop and get along. Why should these two ride-sharing companies be any different?
It took an “intervention” from Mothers Against Drunk Driving to wrangle the two juvenile car-hoppers and give them both something to ride for in the New Year: safe rides home from the big party.
According to the MADD press release, the troika urges “all adults that if your plans include alcohol, then plan ahead and designate a non-drinking driver before the celebrations begin.”
For Uber: Enter promo code MADDNYE from 6:00 p.m. local time New Year’s Eve to 6:00 a.m. local time New Year’s Day and UBER will donate $1 to MADD for every ride nationwide.
For Lyft: Starting 6:00 a.m. local time December 29 through 6:00 a.m. local time New Year’s Day, pledge to get home safe at Lyft.com/NYE and $1 per pledge nationwide will benefit MADD.
Good PR for all three organizations — and a good opportunity to remind New Year’s Eve revelers that one person (be it a friend or an Uber driver) should plan on literally taking nothing for the team. Make 2015 a year to remember by waking up in January ready for another PR day.
